Obituary Message

Obituary Date : 03/11/2025

Mrs. Umathevy Karunanathan, who was born in Pandatharippu, Jaffna, Srilanka, and resided in Hildesheim, Germany, passed away peacefully on Thursday, 30th October 2025.

Beloved wife of the late Kanagaratnam Karunanathan,

Loving mother of Prabhakaran, Jayakanthikaran, the late Maaveerar Jeyanthikaran, Prasanthi, and Sanathan,

Dear mother-in-law of Surekha, Jeevakaruni, and Nency,

Affectionate grandmother of Eelavan, Nilavan, Vaagai, Priyan, Dwaraka, Jey, Aathi, Elaiya, and Liyana.

The family kindly requests relatives, friends, and well-wishers to accept this notice through RIPPAGE.

In Loving Memory of Mother Umadevi

Mrs. Umadevi was born in 1949 in Pandatharippu, Jaffna, where she spent her early life and completed her education.

In 1971, she married Mr. Karunanathan from Valvettithurai, and together they raised five children.

In the early 1990s, she and her family migrated to Germany, where she continued to contribute to the Tamil Eelam liberation struggle from abroad. She was deeply committed to preserving Tamil language and culture among the younger generation, and with that vision, she helped establish a Tamil school (Tamil Aalayam) in her community, serving as one of its first teachers.

During the peak of the liberation struggle, her third son Captain Jeyanthan (Colonel Vettrichelvan) joined the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and attained martyrdom fighting bravely alongside the national leader in the final battle.

We honor and pay tribute to this brave mother, who raised a Maaveerar and lived a life of quiet strength, service, and sacrifice.

With heartfelt respect,

The Tamil community in Germany
